RMPT and CK Power provide high-quality service to The Home Depot Rental

The Home Depot is well known for its wide selection of home improvement products and tool rentals. During the past several years, The Home Depot has also developed a growing fleet of large equipment such as aerial lifts, skid steers and compact excavators that are available to rent in several markets.

“We have about 1,200 locations across the country with large equipment, so our footprint is fairly sizable,” said Kyle Robinson, a product support manager for The Home Depot Rental. “We have around 21,000 units in our inventory available for a customer base that includes everyone from the do-it-yourself individual who needs something for a day or two to large contractors with long-term needs.”

Maintaining a reliable fleet is among Robinson’s highest priorities. One of Robinson’s former colleagues suggested he contact Rocky Mountain Powertrain (RMPT) — a CK Power company in Denver — for service and repairs on various pieces of equipment.

“Across the country, we have around 425 service techs who do a great job,” said Robinson. “There are situations, however, where repairs are too large or too time-consuming for us to handle. In those cases, we utilize high-quality outside partners like RMPT and CK Power to ensure that the job gets done.”

RMPT specializes in diesel repairs and is an authorized service provider for warranty work for several equipment and engine manufacturers, including those carried by The Home Depot Rental. RMPT has worked with Robinson for about three years.

“Our relationship continues to grow because RMPT’s ability to get things across the finish line has been outstanding,” stated Robinson. “It started with some simple service work, and then we threw some challenges at RMPT, and they delivered. For instance, RMPT sourced some hard-to-find parts for an engine rebuild that others said would take months.”

Brandy Ayriss, the director of sales and marketing at RMPT, said the company strives to provide that level of service to every customer.

“In this instance, we cross-sourced the needed component and had it shipped to us right away,” said Ayriss. “It illustrates our commitment to go the extra mile to provide exceptional care and value — especially during this tough time involving supply chain issues. It’s a real source of pride to us that we can do that for Kyle and The Home Depot, as well as our many other customers.”

Expanding relationships

Due to their good relationship, Robinson started to send engines from The Home Depot’s large machines to RMPT for rebuilding. RMPT’s high-quality service also prompted Robinson to send engines from smaller machines to CK Power shops in St. Louis and Oklahoma City.

“Brandy helped coordinate that,” Robinson explained. “Like RMPT, CK Power is great to work with and an authorized service provider. It’s taken on an engine rebuild initiative for us. Because they can get the parts, and based on our experience with RMPT, we have every confidence that the rebuilds will be as good as new.”

CK Power provides full-service repairs and maintenance on any make and model of engine, but it specializes in diesel and gaseous repairs, engine rebuilds/overhauls, stationary generators, and mobile application generator repairs. CK Power also works on industrial equipment such as chippers, blowers and saws.

“Our capabilities are extensive,” said Royce Clyburn, a service manager at CK Power’s Oklahoma City location. “We handle practically anything, and we’re expanding to increase our capacity to help customers such as Kyle and The Home Depot. We’re in the infant stages of working with them, but we see the potential to expand that relationship.”

Robinson added, “Brandy, Royce and everyone we have dealt with at RMPT and CK Power have been really easy to do business with — great communication and very honest. For example, they will always assess something and tell me the most cost-effective route to go. If that means they can rebuild an engine, they will. If they think it’s not worth the time, and it’s cheaper to buy new, they tell me so that we can save time and money. That’s outstanding to me.”
